THE CAPE ROYAL CORPSE REVIVER COCKTAIL

Today we’re having a variation on a Corpse Reviver cocktail, of which there are many recipes, all intended to be a “hair of the dog” cocktail. And if you don’t know what that means, good for you, because it’s the ludicrous term for drinking a hangover away. I don’t recommend this. Although it does make you feel better. So non-recommend recommendation, I guess.

The Corpse Reviver group of cocktails first appeared in 1861 in Punch Magazine. Usually a Corpse Reviver is a strong spirit like Gin or Brandy, with a herbal liqueur like vermouth, but this one is pretty different and I saw it on Andres Erickson’s cocktail YouTube channel, which of course I’ll post the video on our webpage. It comes from the book “Cafe Royal Cocktail Book” by William J. Tarling in 1937. This is the only one I’ve seen with sparkling wine included.

For this cocktail you will need:

1⁄2 oz / 15 ml Cognac

1⁄4 oz / 7 ml Grenadine

1⁄2 oz / 15 ml Fresh Lemon Juice

1⁄2 oz / 15 ml Fresh Orange Juice

3 oz / 90 ml Dry Sparkling Wine

Add all ingredients, save the sparkling wine, and shake with ice. Double strain into a chilled claret glass or coupe, and top with the wine. No garnish.

Go to time stamp 16:20 if you wanna see the recipe for the one we made on the show.

Dinobot riding Rattrap is silly and never stops being silly. Just walk!

Darla, the dog in Silence of the Lambs and The Burbs. She passed in 1992 at the ripe old age of 16. Great actor.
