ENGLISH GARDEN COCKTAIL
We have a special BUY US A DRINK installment here. Because of scheduling this episode is airing a little out of order from our usual method, which is to review the episodes in production order. But because we have our special guest from last episode joining us again, we’re having Alexis’s BUY US A DRINK cocktail:
THE ENGLISH GARDEN
First off, Mr. Taylor, this is an enormous, very boozy drink if you hold to the measurements you gave me. But it’s only about 10% ABV. Still, it’s half a liter of 10% ABV. So be careful. There is a caveat in here for a lower octane version.
For a refreshing summer drink, preferably in an English garden, or for my American friends, sat on a verdant lawn surrounded by a spray of roses. Perfect as an introductory welcome drink to any summer party. Remember that any party without flowers is no party, so furnish accordingly with any seasonal flowers that match the overall colour scheme of the host’s attire.
My take:
· Some fresh mint, bruised
· 8 wafer thin slices of cucumber
· 100 ml (3 oz.) gin
· squeezed lime or lemon - one lime or lemon
o Which is about 30 ml (1 oz.)
· 50 ml (1.5 oz.) cloudy pressed apple juice (not concentrate)
o I made my own just with my juicer, but presumably you can buy it, though I think it’s less available here in the States
· 25 ml (1 oz.) elderflower cordial
o Again, not something easy to find here, but I got some off of Amazon for like $12
· about 250 ml (8 oz.) sparkling wine, and such as Prosecco or Cava (preferred choice) to top up
· (Soda water if needed for a less boozy version)
o Put the bruised mint leaves and cucumber in the bottom of a cocktail shaker
o Add the gin, lemon juice, elderflower cordial, and ice cubes and shake.
o Add to a highball or any cool vintage glass.
o Top with sparkling wine or soda.
o Add a garnish of mint and wafer thin sliced cucumber.
o Drink, relax and admire the floral spay
We have several more BUY US A DRINK entries coming up, I appreciate you all being patient as I dole them out in the order we received them or, in the case of one recipe, as it becomes ready. I’ve had to shuffle some things around. But we’ll have some on our episodes 189 and 190.
