THE GAMBLER
It appears as though this drink originates at the Sutler Saloon in Nashville, TN, sometime around 2014. It’s kind of like an herbaceous whiskey daiquiri.
· 1 oz. (30 ml) lemon juice
· 1 oz. basil simple syrup
o Equal parts, by volume, of fresh basil, sugar, and water
o Boil to dissolve and let cool
· 2 oz. (60 ml) bourbon
o I used Old Charter, but traditionally it’s made with Bulliet
· Shake with ice and strain over fresh ice
· Garnish with a spanked basil sprig
This drink is very basil-forward. It may be because I used Thai basil instead of Genovese, but I prefer my basil with a little more bite.
The glasses we’re using here are my Solar System glasses my dad and stepmother got me one Christmas. We have Venus, Earth, and Mars here. Obviously I get Mars. Because I’m so red, warlike, and tiny.
