THE YOKOHAMA ROMANCE COCKTAIL
· This one is, you know, a recipe from these fucking weirdos that wrote this book a century ago. I just randomly picked the first one that was a recipe from a bar in Japan they frequented, this one called The Romance Cabaret. The story of this one is casually racist in a horrible way, so I’m not reading anything from it.
· It sounds like a bartender in the place fixed ‘em this drink gratis because it was a new concoction he made up, they got hammered, went out in the street and coerced some poor locals into giving these white men their bicycles, stole them, basically, if I read between the lines, and then wrecked the bikes on some rubble left over from an earthquake in 1923.
· RECIPE
o 2 jiggers of old cognac
o 1 jigger of cherry brandy
o ¼ tsp Rose’s lime juice
o The juice of ½ a lime
Shake very hard with very fine ice and serve with some of this left in. Frozen in the mixer, tropical-style, is still better. Serve in a big saucer champagne glass.
