THE BULLSHOT
Inspired by Noel Coward
From the book: In the 60s, the playwright switched to a fashionable drink of the period called The Bullshot. Invented in the mid-1950s at the Caucus Club in Detroit when a Campbell’s Soup executive wanted a way to sell more beef consomme. Coward would drink the Bullshot for the rest of his life. When the Queen Mother came to visit Coward for lunch at his Jamaica estate in 1965, he introduced her to the drink: “She had two and was delighted.” We all know the Queen was notorious for her love of cocktails. On a personal note I would also like to add that Coward was a fantastic dresser just like me; so many awesome suits. But that’s just potatoes, Smitty, here comes the gravy: On to the cocktail! For The Bullshot you will need:
1 ½ oz. (45 ml) vodka
3 oz. (90 ml) chilled beef bouillon
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
¼ oz. (7.5 ml) lemon juice
Celery salt and pepper
“Pop some ice cubes into a cocktail shaker, add all the ingredients, and shake for 6-8 seconds. Strain into a copper mug, if you have one, although a glass will do the trick. Serve with impeccable manners.”
It’s basically a sideways Bloody Mary. So it’s great we’re recording in the morning; it’s for breakfast!
