We have a Patreon BUY US A DRINK! Our most prolific cocktail contributor Bryan Jones has a holiday-based cocktail, though it’s a little late. It’s a Cinco de Mayo drink. The cocktail we had for “Only Human,” from Emmy, came in first, and she requested that episode specifically. But it’s never too late to celebrate!
I find it interesting that Cinco de Mayo is as popular in the US as Mexico. Though here I think a lot of people just like another day that’s an excuse to get drunk, due largely to beer company marketing in the 1980s. Everybody probably knows this, but it’s not actually a celebration of Mexican Independence Day, it commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the 2nd French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Mexican Independence Day is September 16th. Now, to the cocktail!
The El Verde – which means, THE Verde
· 12 oz. (1 can) Mt Dew or store brand equivalent
· 2 oz. (60 ml) tequila
· 1 TBSP (1/2 oz. or 15 ml) lime juice)
o Stir for about 30 seconds
o I went ahead and took the liberty of shaking the lime juice and tequila with ice, straining over fresh ice, and filling with the Mt Dew
