THE ORANGE WHIP
I chose this cocktail for no particular reason other than it comes from a 1980s classic, The Blues Brothers, from a scene with the always fantastic John Candy (RIP) and it’s fucking delicious.
The story goes that John Candy had a buddy who owned an Orange Julius franchise, and this drink, which Candy’s character orders for the cops at the show near the end was some kind of sideways marketing. Sounds apocryphal, but I can neither confirm nor deny its veracity.
· 4 oz. (120 ml) fresh OJ
· 1 oz. (30 ml) rum
o White rum, Bacardi works well, you don’t want a lot of funk here
· 1 oz. vodka
· ½ oz. (15 ml) triple sec
· 2 oz. (60 ml) heavy cream
o Shake with crushed ice or use your whirly foozle blender
o Open pour into a fun glass
o Garnish with an orange wheel
